Spring Concert
The members of Solihull Choral Society are delighted to be performing the Monteverdi Vespers of 1610 on 24 March 2012. Our last performance, in 2004 was a sell out and much praised by our audience.
The Vespers are justifiably popular combining great solemnity with brilliant vocal writing for choirs and soloists.
Baroque specialists 'The Musical and Amicable Players' and 'The Quintesential Sackbutt and Cornett Ensemble' are our orchestra. We are fortunate to have a fine group of 7 vocal soloists assembled by David Clegg who sings with The Sixteen. They are sopranos Helen-Jane Howells and Zoe Brown, countertenor Daniel Colins, tenors Sam Furness and Matthew Long, baritone Jonathan Brown and bass Callum Thorp.
Combine all this with the fine accoustic of Olton Friary and we have what promises to be an unforgettable musical experience.

Review November 09
The November concert, held at Olton Friary, consisted of music by two composers celebrating anniversaries in 2009, Purcell and Handel.
The great English Orpheus, Henry Purcell was represented by two of his best known Odes: “Welcome to All the Pleasures” and the ever popular “Come Ye Sons of Art”, written for the birthday of Queen Mary. In this, the most famous movement is Sound the Trumpet, written for two counter tenors. David Clegg (a regular soloist with the Society) and Gareth Price matched each other well and were given great support by the continuo team of the Queens Park Sinfonia.
Review Summer 2010
St James Church, Great Packington. Saturday 12 June 2010
Driving through the park to the church on a beautiful evening with the deer for additional entertainment raised the expectation of a special evening. We were not to be disappointed.
I have heard the Choral Society from time to time over 5 years and the continued improvement is evident. I was impressed the first time I heard them but they now have a precision and clarity which is rare in such a society and a joy to hear. They are, of course, well rehearsed but in addition have a clear feeling for each other and the music.
